Holistic fitness and pain relief

Holistic fitness chiro Kosmides This blog is all about holistic fitness. Training alone will not make you a healthy individual. Nor will nutrition, supplements, meditation, mental balance -- all of these elements need to work together in support of your body and mind.

The blog's web guy Glenn, a longtime L.A. client, is a believer. He recently hooked up with Sherman Oaks chiropractor George Kosmides for a new web site that talks about holistic health as it applies to chiropractic.

The chiropractic center uses "a comprehensive approach to treating weakness in the body by restoring overall health" -- classic holistic philosophy. "Doctor George" (pictured) uses needleless Meridian accupuncture, nutrition testing (whole-food supplements), as well as other holistic treatments for pain relief.

The chiropractic site is worth a read, especially Kosmides' personal story, which tells how he dealt with his own physical pain and was inspired to help others deal with theirs. Good stuff.

How to tame your stress

Round_and_round
Here's a detailed look at stress and its effects on your life and work, from the folks at Mind Tools:

The behavioral effects of an over-stressed lifestyle are easy to explain. When under pressure, some people are more likely to drink heavily or smoke, as a way of getting immediate chemical relief from stress. Others may have so much work to do that they do not exercise or eat properly. They may cut down on sleep, or may worry so much that they sleep badly. They may get so carried away with work and meeting daily pressures that they do not take time to see the doctor or dentist when they need to. All of these are likely to harm health. The direct physiological effects of excessive stress are more complex. In some areas they are well understood, while in other areas, they are still subject to debate and further research.

The power of feng shui

Feng_shui_hints_logo
Having an orderly home and workplace creates an energy of which most people are not aware. Take a look at your house and workplace. Are they neat, clean and tidy? Can you find things easily? Do they appear pleasing to the eye? Are they comfortable, with good lighting? If your place is messy, there’s a good chance your mind will be muddled and generally out of sorts. This does not make for a fulfilling life. Does your home please you? Are you happy to hang out alone or entertain friends? Your home should be a place where you can be at peace. If not, work on it. Study feng shui.

Every now and then go away

Vacation_fitness_hawaii_hollyWith our hectic lifestyles everything seems to close in on us. One of the greatest minds of all time, Leonardo Da Vinci wrote:

Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer; since to remain constantly at work will cause you to lose power of judgment ...

Go some distance away
because the work will appear smaller
and more of it can be taken at a glance
and lack of harmony
or proportion is more readily seen.
